This week Ricky and Gavin talk to Lighting Designer and very long-time collaborator Stuart Glover. Stuart is a freelance Lighting Designer based in London, working across the UK and further abroad. Stuart’s work ranges across all forms of lighting design, through theatre, dance, immersive productions, film and artistic light installations.
Stuart began his Lazarus collaboration with our production of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice which played at The Jack Studio Theatre in 2013. Continuing on the Shakespeare theme Stuart then lit Richard III, directed by Gavin Harrington-Odedra at The Blue Elephant Theatre, Our World at War rep of Troilus and Cressida and Coriolanus at The Tristan Bates Theatre in 2014. Stuart was on a roll and returned in 2015 for Revenger’s Tragedy again directed by Gavin, and again playing at The Jack Studio Theatre and Henry V directed by myself at The Union Theatre. In 2016 Stuart was back this time for something quite a bit different… Brecht’s Caucasian Chalk Circle which played at The Jack Studio Theatre, The Bacchae at The Blue Elephant Theatre and The Beggar’s Opera back at the Jack! In 2017 Stuart relit Chalk Circle for its transfer to Greenwich Theatre and returned to the Jack for the 5th time for Taming of the Shrew directed by Sara Reimers. In 2018 Stuart joined us as we moved into Greenwich Theatre for our first year as resident company for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and in 2019 lit our Tempest, both of course by Shakespeare. In 2020 Stuart was in rehearsal for our production of Hedda Gabler when the pandemic arrived and people were advised not to attend theatres prior to a national shutdown.
